Recovery Week

It is hard to believe that this time last Saturday I as in Birmingham for the Mercedes Marathon. Time sure does fly.

I have taken it easy this week with a couple of easy 5 mile runs. I wanted to do 8 miles this morning. Amy is training for the Tom King Half Marathon in March and I have been running with her on her long runs on Sunday. I really didn’t want to do 8 miles today and then 9 miles on Sunday. Since it is suppose to rain on Sunday, I talked Amy into doing her run this morning. I agreed to not leave until 6:30 rather than my normal 5:30.

I told Amy that the 5 minute rule applied. She called at 6:27 to say she was on her way.

We started out and she did all right until mile 3. From then on it was a struggle. Amy had a tough day but she gutted it out. I am really proud of her. It was the first time she has run 9 miles. She is going to do great on race day.

The recovery seems to be going well. The soreness is gone from my legs and I’m getting some needed rest. Hope to keep the mileage down again this week before picking it up to start getting ready for the Country Music Marathon.

I think it is so cool how you and Amy are running together. That is simply marvelous. And how good for her to run into a tough workout, yet persevere through it. That is good training, in many, many ways.

Thanks for being a great Dad to your adult daughter!!!
