New Year’s Resolutions

I have come to believe that New Year’s Resolutions can be a bad thing.

j0434929This year I want to do core strength training, stretching, and more swiming. To that end, I have tried to stretch before and after my runs this week. Thursday, I went to the Y at lunch and did some light weights on the machines. Friday, I swam, not long, but I was got back in the pool, a first step. Sounds like a good start, right.

Friday afternoon, after reading Michele’s post about the mile long hills in in Birmingham, I decided to run the big hill in our subdivision.

I paid for my New Year’s Resolutions on Saturday morning. My arms and chest were sore from the lifting and swimming and my legs were tired from the week’s mileage and Friday’s hill work.

I ran 20 miles Saturday morning. When I headed out the door my Garmin would not turn on. I had checked the battery Friday evening but I must have not turned it off. Anyway, it may have been a good thing that I only had my old trusty Timex to record the run. I finished the run in 3:07:28 and I was tired for the rest of the day!

I have decided that New Year’s Resolutions are a pain, literally.
