The Test

In preparing for the Rocket City Marathon, I have jumped into the Pfitz 12-week plan after Chicago with only 9 weeks to race day. My goal for Huntsville is to keep up with Michele and Lana. They are using the Pfitz 18 week plan. The last 5 weeks of both plans are the same. They shifted the plan to do their long runs on Friday, so I’m running the same workout a day later.

The run for today, 10K tune race.

The ladies from Manchester set the bar rather high (or in this case low)yesterday by doing the run in under 50 minutes. I knew that would be a challenge for me if I’m going to keep up with them.

So to be on the safe side, I set my watch for a 8:13 pace or 51:08. This is the equivalent 10k pace, according to the McMillian Running Calculator, for a 4 hour marathon.

I huffed and puffed and kept telling myself that this is the pace I would need to run to qualify for Boston. Finally my Garmin beeped…49:35. I was able to keep up. Now I only hope I can do as well on December 8.

Training for the week
Sun: Rest
Mon: 8 miles w/ 5 x 600m – 1:09:22, 8:38 pace
Tues: 11 miles – 1:36:14 – 8:44 pace
Wed: Rest
Thur: 4.15 miles w/ 6x100m strides – 36:08 – 8:42 pace
Fri: 6.22 miles – 49:35 – 7:58 pace

Wow…a solid, good 10K. Even more to do it all by yourself, without the help of competition!

    4 weeks to go!!
