St. Jude Training – Week 16
This past week was the first week of the taper but the mileage was the only thing that was reduced.
Monday was 8 miles with 5 x 600m intervals. I did fine until the fourth set. It was dark and I was running in Crockett Park. During the recovery, I strapped on my head lamp and didn’t hear my watch beep to start the next set. So, my times and distances were off a little bit.
Tuesday was a 5 mile recovery run
Wednesday was a rest day.
Thursday I ran 4 miles with 6 x 100m strides.
Friday was my last “tune up” race. I raced against my Garmin. Of the three faux 10k races this cycle, this was the slowest. I just felt like I was plodding with my pace dropping off during the fifth mile.
Saturday’s run was 15 miles. It was 15 degrees when I headed out the door. It was a beautiful morning to run but a little on the nippy side. It was a good run at an encouraging pace.

Wow, 15 @ 9:07 is quite the “taper”…but, as you say, it was only the total mileage that went down.
You are sure setting yourself up wonderfully, David!
Have a great Thanksgiving with the family!

Brr! 15 degrees, I am going to have to start thinking about what to pack for Memphis.
You sure were right about nothing going down but the mileage. I’ll be following your jet stream in Memphis for sure. Congrats on a superb training cycle.
