Reality Check

After have such a good race last weekend in the rain, I thought I would be primed for an even better week this past week. Laura Anne was out of school so I took the week off. (I needed a Spring break too.) It was nice to be able to sleep a little later each morning and get some well need rest and chores done around the house.

Last weekend Gayle had gotten the respiratory curd that is going around and by Thursday it had made it’s way to me.

Laura Anne and I drove to Bowling Green Thursday morning to tour Western Kentucky University. It was cool and windy as we walked around campus and I was sniffing the whole time. When we got home, I ran 12 miles and felt OK. But Friday morning, I was slow getting up.

Friday afternoon, I ran an easy 5 with hopes of still doing the Nashville Striders 20 mile training run Saturday.

Saturday morning I got up and drove downtown. The course followed the Country Music Half-Marathon and then added a 7 mile loop back to the start.

I was cool and windy and dark when we gathered in Centennial Park. I spotted Lisa and told her all I wanted was to get in the mileage today.

We headed out.

You notice more on the course when you are either by yourself or with a small group. I had forgotten how constant the hills are on the half-marathon course.

I plowed through the first 13-miles but the wind was not letting up and I continued to be chilled. By mile 16, I decided to head back to the park and cut the run a one mile short.

I felt so beat up that I didn’t go by the drink table and get a banana but went straight to my car. I changed my shirt and drove home.

By the time I got home, I was shivering. Took a hot shower, that did not warm me up and then crawled into bed.

When Gayle got home a couple of hours later, she took my temperature and it was over 100.

I spent the rest of Saturday and most of today (other than going to church this morning) either napping or sitting around watching basketball. Needless to say, I didn’t get to run with Amy today.

Hopefully this crud will not last too long.

Yuck about the crud!!! You may get another day off on Monday!!! Hope you are feeling better.

Hey, WKU sure is having a good run in basketball. College decisions are huge. I’m glad I’m done with them.

Take care of yourself…spring will come.

    Happy Easter!

Oh my, you poor thing, I pray you feel better soon!
That wind was something else coming back up West End.

Rest up!!! Don’t push yourself before you feel you’re ready to train again. Hang in there!

Man, stay away from me! Last year I got the same kind of crud the weekend before the Richmond 10K and ran a low-grade fever for 5 straight days. So, the 2007 Richmond 10K was a DNS for me. I’m hoping to stay well this year — 10 days to go.

But, I am sorry you’re sick. No fun.

    Bob
